knight big horn question
« on: October 15, 2011, 04:15:46 PM »
Is there an easy way to pull the breech plug? Seems that in order to get the removal tool into the chamber you have to remove or drop the trigger, otherwise the tool can't be inserted? Any tricks, can't get anything in there to depress the metal release.

Yep,with the safety off and pulling on the trigger, the tool will slip through.

Exactly- pull trigger with safety off, and keep the trigger depressed while inserting the breechplug wrench.  It really helps to keep the breech area (directly above the trigger) clean.  To do this, I use a shotgun patch with bore cleaner, and clean this area using the end of the ramrod.

For what it's worth, I find that the breechplug can be very hard to remove.  I sometimes have to insert a screwdriver into the breechplug wrench and tap on it with a rubber mallet (gently increasing the hardness of the hits) until the breechplug begins to turn.  Really, my only complaint with the Knight Bighorn!

Greasing the threads good and not getting it too tight really helps. I used to have an occasional hard time getting mine out. Then decided not to put it in so tight and it works fine.Snug is tight enough.
