coyote hunting today?
« on: October 22, 2011, 03:44:07 PM »
i was in a area today hunting yotes. i started with a pup in distress for a while and got a little bored so i thought what the heck lets try something different so i used a group howl for about 2 or 3 minutes and i heard something off in the distance howling back. it sounded like a male howl. i then used a female howl and it howled back a few more times and then stopped. i stayed on stand for about a hour. the area around this is thick with reprod. my question is what call should i use to get a yote closer next time so i have shot at it dont know how close he was. because this stuff is thick?

Pup distress and a shotgun.

I'd try a rabbit or rodent distress. Or maybe a short bark/howl (challenge howl)?  :dunno:

Next time howl first then do the pup distress or ki-yi (same thing) We will never know why they don't come, just keep on tyring. Good luck!

Oh and keep a pocket full of fresh greasy bacon! Not only does it cover your scent it will entice them into coming in! (and it makes a good snack for those lonnng stands!)  :chuckle:

Is it even pup season right now? Little late/early isnt it? You think it will still get them in? Seems like that only works on females for me?  :dunno:

Lets do some hunting P-pro! Me & FC are heading to my honey hole tomorrow, I'll let you all know if we pull one or two out of there! Keep your fingers crossed for a BOB!

Most time when I am just hunting yotes I will use my mouth calls when I get into a stand and make a few howls. That way it will tell me who is in the area and even cause a response from most yotes. Then I will wait awhile before starting any kind of distress sound. You volume is key and always start soft! After your howls they could be closing and be close already. Most times a prey sound will be a great closer this time of year. One that is a killer is a bird in distress. Something that is not so loud but yet high pitched. Good luck
