Something sounds like a cougar, what is it?
« on: October 22, 2011, 10:43:16 PM »
Last night at our house I heard something so I stopped what I was doing to hear it better. It sounded exactly like the cougar young whistles from Wildlife Tech. I got all excited and thought I had a cougar close by my house and got the spotlight out but couldn't see any eyes. After a half hour of trying to figure out what it is, I gave up and the sound went on into the morning. Now it started again and it sounds like there are two of them, whatever they are, calling to each other. They do the cougar like whistle then a squawk. Any ideas what it is? Some kind of bird maybe? So far I have only heard it from about 8-9pm to around 6-7am.

Owl more than likely.
Does it have a whistle then a screech thing going on? I've see them do the same thing around my place with night vision.
Checkin' wind and makin' smoke.
That's how I roll...

If there is a creek nearby, might even be a Blue Herring, or as we call'em an Up The Creek bird.  They will squawk all night long.   :dunno:    (Falfire with night vision?) :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

Yes, a whistle then 5-10 second pause then screech/squawk. Over and over.
