Getting ready to head out now, come on sun, give us some light.  Been a restless night.

Good Luck.  Keep us posted on your tactics and success.

Just got back for lunch from trip 1, found the blood trail again, very few blood drops, some white hair and a few pieces of fat.  Lost the blood trail after about 100 yds again.  Crawled around looking for more and found nothing.  Walked some large circles of the area with a hunting buddy that came to help out.  Haven't found anything yet.  Headed back out in a little while, gonna try the peroxide and see if it helps relocate blood.  Right now, I'm thinking low brisket shot.  I'm assuming that she missed the vitals as I am now over 300 yds from point of impact and the trail seems to be getting smaller and smaller.  I'll let you know once I get back from Trip 2.

My oldest daughter shot a nice whitetail doe this evening about 45 min before dark.  The deer jumped and kicked, spun a 180 and ran about 100 yds, then stopped and slowly walked off like nothing happened.  We gave her about a half hour before we pursued. Then, we found a decent blood trail, but lost it due to the darkness.  The blood started bright red and got darker and darker as we went along.  I'm sure the blood keeps going but with the darkness and fog it is impossible to see, its mostly small spots with a few half dollar sized puddles.  I finally made the decision about 10 min ago to back out and resume the search in the morning when we have more light. I'm worried about walking on blood and destroying any chance of finding her we have.  I'm definitely concerned about meat spoilage or predators too.  :bash: :bash: :bash: Temp should be below freezing tonight. What do you guys think??
Sounds like a gut shot, body angle will do that to a kid. Sometimes the front leg is back, so they shoot it behind the shoulder bam gut shot. We always tell them to shoot behind the shoulder. I got out a dry eraser board and showed them body angles for each shot. Ben there done that w/my kids. The blood starts out red then gets dark when the the guts start to mix w/it. And yes they just walk off when gut shot. I have 5 daughters and started them when they were 9 and have had my share of guy shot deer. Only lost two over the years.

So what's the verdict? You find her deer yet?

Sorry about the delay, been busy, never found  blood again after the last drop (looked for the 2 days) walking in grids out to about 800 yds, figured she must've stopped licked the wound and took off running.

But then, I saw the deer cross in front of me yesterday, with a slight limp in the left front yet still bearing weight on the leg.  I'm guessing she must've shot low hit muscle in there somewhere, glad its still alive, but kinda ticked the season is over and the deer can't be put down.  I supposed by the looks of it after 5 days its gonna make it.
