Deer hunting with a dog just tagging along...?

Does anyone know where I can find the Washington rules on just having my dog tag along with me while I am deer hunting. He obviously is NOT trained to hunt deer!  THANKS

if he's anything like my dogs he'll run off any deer within a half mile..

I think its just illegal to hunt with the use of dogs, not to hunt with your dog. I would have him wearing something orange though thats for sure.

I've wondered that same thing, especially for early season bear hunting that's more of a hike than a real "hunt."  I have a lab (the bird dog) and a Australian Shepard/Blue Heeler mix (the useless but kind of cute dog) and I would hope that no one would believe that I would try to run a bear with them.  On the other hand, I was worried about it, so I've never actually taken them with me when I've had a rifle.  God forbid I should wound one and my dog actually catches up with it while it's still alive for some reason.  I'd anticipate a dead dog.

Just leave the dog at home while deer hunting.

Geez.  I wonder if this means taking the dog for a ride too.  I took mine all day on Saturday.  Just road hunted really. I let her out a few times to go pee.  Sounds like I could of got a ticket   The way the law is written

my aussie is actually quite useful around my farm, he patrols every morning and night litterally making his rounds along the 6 acre perimeter keeping the coyotes at bay. we have several free range (daytime) chickens and ducks and the only time we've lost birds was when we left him in the house when were away for a few hours. he knew the yote's had been there and spent the next 3 days hanging out by the kill spot. now if i had a lab, i would almost definately need to leave him in the house when the birds were loose!

Thanks...guys. What a crock. I should have been more clear. I just wanted to have him in the truck when I was taking the family on a road show in the evening.

I love Washington but it seems like we should rename it to the "People Republic of Washington"....

The one thing I do know is that the gamies do not get a chance to write very many tickets so when they get a chance....they will!

An outfitter I used to work for in Wyoming had the meanest red healer you ever seen and he would go hunting with him and would go everywhere with him. The dog was missing an eye had part of his head kicked in from a mule and had survived a plane crash in Alaska. Toughest SOB I've ever seen. He would leave you alone unless you tried to touch him, or looked at him the wrong way

I know just what you mean, i met a dog like that last year his name was Sledge. I watched him get kicked in the face by a mean old mule and lay lifeless for about 20 seconds... luckily he got up but half his face must have been numb because the one half wouldn't move and looked crooked from all the swelling. Thought we were gonna bury that dog right there in the creek bottom... Sledge didn't bite at the mules heels after that. Those cowboys sure know how to train a good dog
