Best bet for chukars this weekend?

I'm thinking about a day hunt (from Tacoma) for chukars this weekend.  I hunted hard opening week for two days around Naches, didn't see any.  Friends of mine just hunted around Ellensburg over the weekend down by the river, didn't see any.  I would like to try the Colockum but I don't think my tires are up to it.  I usually just give up and hunt Oregon, but there have to be birds here in WA. somewhere, judging by reports.   Can someone give a westside guy a little love?

Try across the river from sunland. Will need boat.

Down along the Snake, think mouth of the Ronde. To my knowledge, more Chukars down there than any other part of the state.

I found two large coveys in the colokum hunting deer but this weekend is opener for elk, so I wouldn't risk it. If youre willing to drive to wenatchee send me a pm and maybe we could hook up. I know a few other spots as well.

Thanks for the replies.  I think I'll try around Vantage and/or see if I can find a boat to get across the river also.

The Snake River Breaks in Whitman, Garfield and Asotin counties have good numbers of chuckar.  Only other place I have hunted them is Swakane, but that was in the snow.

I've hunted the Snake for phez but not for chukars.  That's about a 5 hr. drive for me, which is the same as going to Oregon, where the hunting is generally much better for chukars.

 :yeah: the Snake/ Grande Ronde is good with some Huns thrown in near the bottom river bed.  Bring spare boots and super glue for the dogs' feet.  Super nice and the steelhead run is also going and great way to spend some time outdoors.  Pheasant release sites are open now as well.
I've heard Oakcreek is a good spot for chukar as well but never tried it myself.
