Good job, great story and that was a heck of a nice thing to do. So what was the rifle that you let her shoot the buck with?

Semi custom Weatherby vaguard 308.  21" pacnor barrel with magna porting (making it a perfectly light recoil for her), Timney trigger (set perfectly light for her). Topped with a redfield revolution 2-7 scope which I totally forgot to put on 7 power so she could see. But we got that taken care of before she took her shot

It was hard to say no when she kepted asking if she could have it  :chuckle:

The shot was roughly 200yds. It's a great thing to know your rifle and how if performs. I made sure I did alot of shooting this summer learning this rifle. And I knew as long as she could keep the rifle steady that she would have her deer.

Probably a .300 RUM. "Don't worry, it won't kick nearly as bad as your .30-30."  Poor little lady's shoulder is black and blue now.  :chuckle:

Good on you Bankwalker, the world is a better place with you in it.

In all honesty, you will probably cherish that memory more than if you had shot that buck.

In all honesty, you will probably cherish that memory more than if you had shot that buck.

That's the way I see it. I would honestly rather have this memory over a lifetime of big bucks. Though I may have only shot a couple spikes and a couple 2pts and don't know the excitement of taking a monster buck. I can say this moment and being there with my ex for her first deer a few years ago brings a way bigger joy to hunting.

You never forget your first deer. It is usually for most people their proudest and most memorable moment in hunting. It truly was amazing for her dad to allow me to loan her my rifle and is an even bigger privilege to be part of that memory.

It makes me look forward to having kids and hopefully watching them take their first deer. if they chose to hunt.

Bankwalker for President! You, sir, have a great heart. We need more like you in this world. The memory of this day will mean more to you and the girl than any buck ever could.

Bankwalker thank you for being the kind of outdoorsman we all should be, you probably helped make a hunter and set the bar as far as the example we should be for the kids.
That is probably one of the greatest stories of the year.  Good on you, She will never forget you and you will never forget that moment, truly a blessing both ways.

God Bless
