Homemade Longbow Whitetail
« on: November 17, 2011, 07:09:32 AM »
I had a pretty good story written before the server crash.  I'll abbreviate that, but I still wanted to share some pics since I am still smiling ear-to-ear about the buck I shot with my homemade longbow.

I made a good shot at 25 yards on the second to the last day of an 8 day hunt in Kansas.  My 58# longbow drove a 591 grain cedar arrow with an Ace 2 blade broadhead through ribs on both sides and lungs on the way through to burying in the dirt on the other side.

The taxidermist I had cape him to meet WA's CWD importing rules said he was 5.5 years old and scored 155-3/8".

The view from one of my stands:

The arrow as I found it:

The buck as he laid:

One happy hunter:

And the best is to get to share it with a great friend:

Congratulations on the tremendous accomplishment. Be honest now, Todd; that feels almost as good as the 'first time' doesn't it?!
I'd just like to remind everybody that it's about the hunting, not just the killing. In other words, it's about the total experience, the sport itself and the challenge involved. Bowhunting, done right, is a justifiable and honorable pursuit. Done for the wrong reasons, simply chalking up kills and seeking personal glory, it's taking away rather than giving back to a principled way of life that has to be experienced to be understood.
