Cost and care of birds for mounting?
« on: November 28, 2011, 11:01:57 AM »
So I've got this idea in my head that I want a matching pair of several species of birds for my trophy room (which doesn't exist yet). Mainly a few species of ducks but also pheasant and a few quail for little landscape feature I want to put together. I know little to nothing about the process of mounting these birds and was curious if I could get some input as to how to properly preserve them until I can get them to a taxidermist and also how much is an average amount for getting birds done. Thanks a lot!

7mmfan, if you go to my web-site and click on "field care", there is a lot of information there on caring for your trophy in the field and how to wrap it so it will stay fresh in your freezer until your ready to get it to your Taxidermist.

As far as average price goes, a lot has to do with the type of bird your trophy is, what kind of base work you want, etc.  I also have a price list on my web-site as well, which will give you an idea of how much I charge.  With a big project like yours, I would recommend you carefully choose your Taxidermist and make sure him/her works closely with you on your project.  If you have any other questions or concerns feel free to call or e-mail me anytime.
