Decent benchleg down.
« on: December 01, 2011, 06:08:53 PM »
Spent all day hiking in the crunchy snow yesterday, covered about 5 miles, saw 6 or 7 bucks, mostly dinkers and one 3x4, but a small one, then right at dark I spotted a decent  4x4 but it was too dark to do anything.  So fast foward to today, and spotted this guy at about 35 yards and he started getting nervous and following a doe that was moving away to my left, luckily for me and unlukily for him, she led him right into a nice shooting lane at what I thought was 40 yards and grunted to stop him.  I put my 40 yard pin on him, steadied up and let 'er fly.  Well, I hit higher than I wanted too, but I watched him run about 50 yards and pile up, so I guess it worked.

At the risk of sounding like a rookie/flatlander, what exactly is a "benchleg" buck?

Cross bread deer. Mulie/Black tail.

Deer in the cascade mountains slopes have the availablity to cross breed (BT/Mulie) and do.

BT from the slopes are called Cascade bucks and Mulies from the slopes are bench leg bucks.
