Where should I place my camera for the best ppossible picture opportunity?

Any recomendations from you vetran game cam users. And also how about mineral or salt licks, with they bring deer and elk in for pictures? I saw somewhere that someone uses feed salt and mixes it in with the dirt. Anyone try this method with any success?

i havnt done much, but one thing i learned is dont place it where the sun can hit it, or else you get lots of scenery pics

I've got a white salt block and one of the red mineral blocks in front of my cam.  The deer hammer the mineral block (just had to buy another one) and don't seem to care for the salt (still 90% intact).

If possible place it were two trails the animals are using key word USING intersect if possible.

A frequently used travel corridor is obviously best like Slider said.  You can give them incentive using a mineral block.  I personally don't have one so obviously my experience is limited.

What about camera placement in these well travel routes? Do you choose which direction to point the camera on the trail or place it off the trail hopeing for a broadside shot?

With most cameras you need to wake them up so the 1st picture will take a few seconds so I like to aim my camera down the trail giving me the longest opportunity to gain the picture.

As far as the Feed salt mixed in the dirt, it has worked amazingly well for me, I've got bears, deer and elk all using my licks.

I use a product called deer cocaine and it is designed to help lactating does produce more milk, and has minerals neccssary for good antler growth. I have one camera in a bedding area, and the other placed over the mineral block they both work exeptional. I wish that I would have known about the sun thing as one of my cameras is pointed at the horizon, well I guess I can hope for some good sun set pictures.

If your camera has a fast trigger speed like a cuddeback you can set it up to take a broadside shot just set it up aways from the trail(15-20 feet) If you have a hundred dollar camera you will want to point it down the trail or have bait to hold the animal for a shot. Half of your Pics pointing down the trail will be of animals walking away from the camera?(not good)Try to always set up your camera facing North. Unless you are in thick Timber where the sun won't hit your lens.

I would say don't worry about the sun thing, it is hard to find just the right spot. Intersecting trails is the best advice.  Also get to know your camera, and how fast the trigger is.  Set it up in the house, and try walking into or past your camera.  Check the pictures.  I did this at first and it kinda helped me understand how slow or fast an animal can be traveling and get photo'd. 
Don't get discouraged if you aren't getting pictures on your first, or second set.  Getting the angles right, placement, and heighth is a learning experiment.  Looking forward to seeing some of the animals you have been chasing!
