New yote rifle
«
on:
November 25, 2011, 02:53:05 PM »
I bought something kind of diffrent ( a bolt rifle is diffrent for me) to shoot yotes with this winter.
I havent called in enough doubles or needed fast follow up shots to justify a semi auto but I wanted it.
I did move the scope forward after that picture was taken, I sited it in today with a load toped with 40gr V-max's, shoots great.

You'll like it for a call gun. I really like my 16" barrel on my except it's loud as all get out.

I've shot a 16" barrled .223 before, I was supprised at how loud and how much I felt the muzzel blast, thats why I went with a 20" on this rifle

Yea I'm looking at putting a gemtec on mine. It's way louder with a bull barrel/target crow then must a m4 barrel. They make nice guns for the thick stuff or quick follow up shots on double or a miss.

FYI. I only buy 55 grn FMJ for my Rock River, why, because they're cheap and it gets the job done. Stock up on 'em.

One of the main uses for this rifke will be sage rats this spring so I'll use a lightly constructed bullet like a V-max. Bothe for the explosivnes on little critters but even more for the lack of ricoche.

It sounds like it's time to get a new gun.

The stock trigger pull was too heavy and rough, no way to adjust it so I replaced it with a Mega arms trigger. it's a lot better but still not even close to the triggers on my bolt guns. The Mega is just the trigger itself ( has a couple of adjustment screws) was $80 and is the cheapest fix I could come up with for a AR. A Timney replacment trigger group that can be set down to 3# is $275.
I was planning on doing some calling this afternoon but other crap took most of the day so I only had enough daylight to set up a target and put a few magazines through it. This toy is going to be fun.

Now you need to get that new shotgun for those yotes that get a little to close
