Vortex Viper 4x12-50mm
« on: December 03, 2011, 04:32:35 PM »
Does any of you have this Rifle scope?? I'm getting a new deer hunting rifle for this next year and i'm thinking about getting this scope for the gun. ( .270 tikka t3 superlite). I already have the Vortex vipers 10x42 bino's and the 20x60x60 Nomad spotting scope while my wife has the 10x42 Diamond backs so we are very up to date with the vortex glass and we are loving what we see. I'm pretty sure this is the scope i want to go with for the quality and the price range its in, I just wanted to hear from the people that already have them and what they think of the scope.

They are clear and once zero, they are excellent. The target style knobs are strictly for zeroing, my brother and I currently own two Viper 6.5-20's. The target knobs are far from repeatable, so if you plan on using it for extended range shooting, using your target knobs to adjust for your MOA in drop. They are not consistent at all. Mine has been back to Vortex for repair and then sent back again for replacement because I could not shoot at 100 yards, dial to my 300 yard zero and back again without it being off. Even after replacement it still isn't even close to accurate on knobs adjustment. Some times I can shoot with my 100 yard zero. Dial my elevation for 300 yards and my first shot will be way low at 300 yards as if I never made the adjustment. Then the second round will be close, it's almost as if it take the recoil of the rifle to make something move inside. My brothers is the same way, his is just sitting, it hasn't been sent back yet due to the fact mine going back and then being replaced hasn't changed a thing, the problem still is there. Completely non repeatable. Once they are zeroed and you dont mess with the scope adjustment knobs they are fine if you wish to just hold over for extended shots. Rather worthless in my opinion.

Im fed up with mine, it has ring marks but if someone thinks they are so great. My 6.5-20x 44 Viper with side focus, duplex reticle, box and all paper work is yours for 200 bucks shipped.

Hey Scotty. I put a vortex viper 4-12 on my 270wsm. Its only the 40mm though, I would definitely get the 50 next time. There is a noticeable difference in the light gathering. Other than that, I really like it. Mine has the bullet drop dots in the reticle. I like this rather than trying to move the moa with the turret. I'm not even sure if is intended to be used that way. Mine was pretty close. Zero'd at 200, I used the 500yd dot, and was right on. Of course any variation in bullet or load will change that. I may have just gotten lucky with the ammo I use, to have matched up with their factory setup.
