Difficult hunting late muzzy
« on: December 08, 2011, 05:47:10 PM »
Is it just me or has this late muzzy season sucked?!?  Last year I was in the elk everyday in the Coweeman and this year I have only seen 4 cows.  I'm thinking it's  weather related and not many elk have been pushed down from the snow.  I have attempted to look in the deep dark stuff down low but I'm sure everything within 5 miles can hear the crunching and cracking coming. Then I tried up high on the peaks in the reprod and most of the sign looks old. Now with the clear skies and a full moon I am about to write the season off.  Woa is me lol.  Anyone have any suggestions or know where the elk like to hang out during these difficult hunting conditions? Thanks for listening :)

Well I've been deer hunting & it sucks.  The moon is pretty bright at night, and all the critters are hunkered all day.  Maybe some weather would help.

We have been hunting the same area we always hunt and we have had 2 shots on bulls. I missed last sunday, 100-120 yards, no clue how i missed. But i did.
Brother missed opening day of the late season.

Saw another bull sunday but it was getting to dark to get a shot on him.
We have seen no deer this year. Not one. And we are hunting the brush.

The elk have been a little weird this year. There movements have been off. Usually we can find little groups in clearcuts at first light and then pursue them into the timber, but they are not hanging out in visabe areas this year.

I am guessing poaching.

We were up in the coweeman the sunday after thanksgiving and we had a guy bust out on a road next to us on his quad with a hi power rifle in his handlebars. He saw us and dissapeared real quick back into the brush on his quad.

Damn that's crazy about the guy on the quad!  I have been reading alot of post about poachers this year, it's sad that there are people like that out there.

My buddy had a 30 yard shot at a nice bull on opening day when it was raining like crazy but his ml misfired  :bash:  Sine then it hasn't rained a drop and haven't seen any elk other then 4 cows on a spur road.  Typically this time of year we are getting tons of rain and the elk are out feeding in the clear cuts in the mornings.  I'm thinking they are bedding all day in the reprod enjoying a nice salad bar and listening to all of us hunters marching around.  Its been a tough late season...
