Sucked out all my excitment
« on: January 06, 2012, 03:21:54 PM »
So I decided to start river fishing and got all geared up at christmas. I know how frustrating the hunting laws can be in this state so i dont know why i thought the fishing was going to be any better. I have only gone out once so far and this is what i read today.

http://wdfw.wa.gov/news/release.php?id=jan0612a

Just kinda sucked all my excitment out.  :'(

Sense i am new and dont know much. Is this something i should be expecting every year?

Unfortunately yes......it is becoming the norm......make a trip down south or out west where the rivers stay open longer if not all year.......good luck

The End  :'(  Guess I don't need those new Redington Sonic-Pro Zip Front waders.  Seelheading is in a sad state..  Catch and release on the Stilly, Sky, Sauk in March and April was a beautiful thing.  Gone forever..

I wonder if the nets won't be allowed either :dunno:
It's better to have a gun and not need it than to need one and not have it.                                                                             Local 66 sheetmetal workers

Yeah, if you want to experience steelheading in Jan/Feb/Mar even, I think this is about the only option for now.  Although, I am not sure how long these other areas will hold out.  I see more boats out west now and they are showing up earlier and earlier each year-presumably because so many other places getting closed earlier or closed all together.  Just like they are doing with certain types of hunting, putting more and more people in smaller and smaller areas.  If the nets/sealions/otters don't wipe them out, WDFW will find a way.

Of course nets will be allowed!  And the main reason we can't be fishing at the same time is to help eliminate confrontation :twocents:
