Helmet Cameras??????
« on: December 14, 2011, 09:55:12 AM »
Anyone know anything about the helmet camera's?  I have been trying to research them and really don't know anyone who has used one.  My wife is a very aggressive/competent down hill skier and has always wanted one.  She has an upcoming helicopter ski trip coming up next month up in BC and I was thinking of getting her a helmet camera for Christmas.  Anyone have any recommendations/experience with these?

I've used them....just not in the woods. Low light conditions come out a little fuzzy.

I believe the brand is GoPro. Their cameras stand up to being mounted on a 240 machine gun as it is firing so they're pretty tough. If you put them in the waterproof case they also kill most of the wind noise. You would have to figure out your own mount though.

My son has a gopro and it came with a helmet mount and some other stuff including waterproof case. He uses it for snowboard and ski videos. They are about 300 bucks.

Really, huh you may have to post up some of the vids for us too see...

I own the GoPro HD.  The quality is very good for the price and size.  The price dropped when the HD2 came out.  Depends on your budget, the HD is good enough.  Get the 1080 model.

Another vote for GoPro. Super easy to use and the video that it gives is excellent quality for the money. They have tons of videos on their site too if you want to check them out. If she is skiing, get the chest harness to go with it.

On the King5 news last night they had a couple guys here from Seattle that started their own video camera business for outdoor use.  Very compact too.  Can't remember the brand but they may have a link on the king5 website.
Look man, some times you just gotta roll the dice

The guys from Seattle are some acquantances of mine.  Their company created the Contour HD, etc.  The GoPro has put all their $ into advertising/marketing.  That is why you see so many of them.
However, the real pro's use the Contour brand.  They have way better mounts (you can mount to anything), better picture, better quality, better software, and are easier to use.

When you go to Whistler, you will see 80% of the extreme skiers using the Contour.
When I was on Mt. Everest, I only saw the Contour.  No GoPro.

The Ergodynamics and sleakness of the Contour are what really stand out to me.  The GoPro sits so far out there on your helmet...it's clumsy.
"Aim small, miss small."
Genesis 27:3, "Now then, get your weapons, your quiver and bow, and go out to the open country to hunt some wild game for me."

I was looking in to those before I got my gopro but the go pro has many more features and has a case you can go forever on a set or batteries not saying the there is anything wrong with them but I would defiantly. Get the go pro any day of the week.

I looked at both the Go Pro and the Contour. I have to give Go Pro the nod. I asked Santa for a Go Pro Motorsports HD 1080 for christmas. Hopefully she gets it for me. If not, im buying it the day after Christmas. We ride quads and its so friggin mountabe! Helmet, goggles, handlebars, frame, six pack rack and chest. Comes with suction cup mount as well. So many uses for me alone. Mount it on the tower of my buddys boat while sturgeon and springer fishing. Wear it on my chest while sitting in the stand, or in the duck blind. Waterproof and shockproof. No wind noise either. How can you beat it for the price. Go to Youtube and look up Go Pro Oregon dunes. You will see the quality while moving at a good clip. Make sure the video is 1080. Enjoy!
