I'm gonna try my hand, in Aug, on Ft. Lewis, with my bow.  Not sure what will happen; I havn't been hunting for bear since I was 17.  What's the worst that can happen, I bag one?  ;)

New to bear hunting on the westside but I bought a Sno Hancock permit, and will try and draw Monroe as well (since I live in Duvall).  Then off to eastern for WTs, turkey, and elk.

My only mission is to kill one with my bow. I have killed a handful with a gun but not been able to loose an arrow at one. I have been close several times but I am going to make it a mission this year. I have only hunted Washington and wasn't bowhunting back in the baiting days....man I miss those days! It is going to be tough to kill one with a bow and no bait but I know it can be done.

I only have one on the wall from rifle, but I'd really like to take one with pistola. My 17yr old wants one too. I don't think we'll have time for spring bear. We'll have to put some time in the high country if the snows and blueberries cooperate. My favorite haunts last year were void of omnivores during the late season.  I want to try some more calling too. The only one I saw this year was well out of range.  (the big one that was chasing three doe's up a ridge!)

If your wanting to see bears that are out in the open areas..your best chances are August and the first 2 weeks of September..after that bear hunting gets difficult as bears get off the south and west faces where the berries once were and into the timber

My best times seeing bears out in the open is from June through August. I have hunted spring bear and before June really don't see much. This year I have gotten over 1500 pictures of bears. Many different sizes, ages and colors.

I get most of my pics with my hand held camera  when the grasses are green and lush or when the berries are out. My trail cams pick up many in the middle of the night. I just am amazed at how they can see in the middle of a dark night in the dark woods. I have learned that when we feared the boogey man at night as kids, that they really do exist.

I have killed them as close as 20 feet and that is very exciting to be that close to one. The one that I killed at 20 feet field dressed at 360 pounds. I was deer hunting and it just came out of the thick brush just about right on top of me, suprised the heck out of me.

I will put in for Monroe and Skagit again this year. I have 4  points so I'll keep my fingers crossed.
I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I'm not!
