Barrel Wood Stove Kit.
« on: November 27, 2011, 02:41:11 PM »
I know I have seen one on here as an example...

However, anyone recommend one over another, and how well did it work, welding is not a problem.  We want to upgrade our woodstove for elk camp for next year, and planning begins now.
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented immigrant' is like calling a drug dealer an 'unlicensed pharmacist'.

Huntbear, the drum kits work great. You’ll need to get creative when purchasing one. Most of them are not legal for sale to in Washington. I bought one a couple weeks ago from Cabalas in Idaho and had it shipped to my house in Washington with no issue. It was a bit expensive, about 85 dollars. I’ve seen them for as little as 40 bucks online.

Not to hijack your thread but I was thinking of posting one to ask folks what they added to there barrel stove. My plan is to build one for my dad and uncles as a Christmas gift for there wet side elk camp. I was thinking of shortening the drum, flat decking it and adding some accessories.

Forgot to add USSC or Vogelzang are the two kits I'm familiar with. Those two work great. load them up get it rippin and damp it down for the night. USSC stand for United States Stove Company. Both of them are cast iron bolt-ons.

Maybe someone knows of or can suggest a carbon steel kit???  :dunno:

They work great! We used one in the wall tent this year for late archery. Make sure you add the piece to the bottom of the barrel like ANDERWAGON did. They help keep from burning out the bottom of the barrel to make them last longer. I have a old wood stove using the Vogelzang  door and smoke stack pieces and You sill want to add another shut-able vent to the front of it for more air.  :twocents:  The one I have without the second vent almost smothers out the stove. cant adjust it enough to get it hotter. another thing to add just below where the smoke goes out the stack on the inside is some sort of shelf to keep the flame from just running up the stack. When i get mine blazing I look outside and the flames are coming out the chimney. This is with 10 foot of chimney pipe.

Seem's like I've seen the kits advertised in a Harbor Freight catalog. Don't know about the quality or anything else. Good luck.

Bonney Lake, maybe you know someone in the area. I'd be willing to haul it a few miles to a near by city (Auburn, Kent, Renton, Sumner, Puyallup, Tacoma, Buckley, Orting, Enumclaw?).  Let me know what works for you.  ;)
