MATHENY BULL HUNT
« on: July 15, 2008, 09:10:54 PM »
I drew a rifle tag with 11 points as a second choice behind the Quinault thinking with  it would be a real fluke if I drew it.

Well, as luck would have, I drew it. I am thrilled because I think it will be a unit for big rosies during the first 10 days of Oct. I know it is steep and deep. I want a nice bull, and I am willing do what it takes to get a decent shot at one.

Has anyone out there drawn this tag in the last 2 years, or have any stories to share about this unit?

Thanks,

Bryan

Hunted Matheny for years until the tribes were given half of the GMU back in a court decision....After that, the area really seemed to go down hill, havent been back in years..... good luck.

We hunted South of the Sams, FR 2180 and 2170. Be careful not to stray into the Park, they will bust ya'...

Man, wish I could help you. I don't know the area but Did apply there this year. I think I've got 11 or 12 points now. Good luck on nailing a good one, those big Rosie's are awesome!

Rick and Ice are right. There are some good bulls in there near the park, but there are no cuts to hunt. It is thicker then thick that is for sure. Give me a few days and I will get you some road numbers of places that I have seen elk.

I might be there in two week's for bear and cougar calling. or eastern Washington get's crowded opening weekend.  there has been a bull raking tree's on the 2140 last few year's. they shot a bull last year in the same Hole. i hope it wasnt him. alway's elk there. i call cougar there. nice old graded's to get into. if killbilly and Billy are up that way i might go for sure. i'll keep my eye's peeled for elk activity.
