This time of year? I'd take the doe in a heartbeat. They still carry some fat on them and are in much better shape eating wise.

And if you're horn hunting, you may be disappointed anyway, even if he's still packing. I was on a late December hunt with a couple buddies in Alaska on one 's seine boat. We were finishing up breakfast and coffee when a buck walked out on the beach next to where we were anchored. The skipper grabbed his rifle (legal to shoot from a non moving boat in Kodiak and Prince William Sound) shot it in the neck and when the bullet hit, both antlers popped off his head and flew in different direction about 8 or 10 feet.

Another friend had shot a real nice 20" wide forky  and we stopped at another friend's cabin to visit for the evening. He grabbed it by the antlers to show it off as he stood on the edge of the boat . Both antlers popped off in his hands as he was lifting it up and my friend of course lost his balance and fell over the side of the boat. Lucky for him the water was only a couple feet deep there, but he landed on his back so he got drenched.
