Initiative to revamp the Game department?
« on: January 03, 2012, 08:49:28 AM »
Anyone a lawyer on here?

I think we need to stand-up as a group all  of us Bow Hunters, Gun Hunters and Smokepole hunters need to stand together and try to work on getting a change to our game department.  We need to try and get an Initiative to revamp the Game department so that the the revenue goes into the departments coffers and not the state general fund, and that all board and director positions are elected by the people and must have a background in the outdoors not just a biology degree. I know it will most likely fail because of the greenies and wolfies but hell its worth the fight?

Anyone else think this is a good idea.

All to often people speak out against the game department and the way it is managed, but no one does anything about it. I think now is the time to not just shake a big stick but to use it!!!!!

Who's with me??????

I would say the most meaningful change is likely to occur under a different governor and differnt director. I think us organising is important and "preping"  us to become a strong voice when it comes to advancing hunting issues.  :twocents:

It would be great to have elections for the head of the WDFW. Great idea.

Really want King county to vote for the director/commission?  I can barely be around family anymore over there because of how bunny-huggy city folk are becoming.

Not to mention that Initiatives can be overturned by the state congress after 2 years.  For the life of me, I can't understand why some of our better senators haven't tried to overturn the hound hunting initiative.  It's been way past the 2 years

Not exactly saying it is a bad idea, just agreeing with SpecialT.  BE CAREFUL on this.  Even if voter turnout is low, it seems that the hippies/greenies almost always have their group get a full turnout.

As i said they would have to have a back ground in hunting and the outdoors aka not anti hunters etc to qualify if that would even be legal?

Like the soon to be commissioner that is an 'avid hunter' and worked in the woods for 30 years, but is a spokesman for Conservation NW for the wolves...that is also one of the groups that strongly backed I-655 at the time.

It all starts with a new Governor......save your breath for the new Governor......then we get after the gov like theres no tomorrow........everything else at this time will just have to be done again when the new governor takes office.

We can hope to accomplish rearrangement of Commissioners,  and the selection of a new DIrector along with many other top posts.  Any of the top posts that have done their best to sell us on the current administration ( like the new assistant ),  need to be sent packin.......doesnt matter he talks the talk, because if he is able to go with the current flow in Olympia, he is not working for us....not in our best interest.  Muck them all out, start over.  We are not going to get many more chances to make changes before the damage is long term and /or irreversible.  Get them out now !  Maybe we need some bumper stickers made up or something...... :dunno:

Yeah I see what your saying got to be careful what you wish for. :yike: maybe we could change it so that instead of the Fish and Wildlife Commission consists of nine members serving six-year terms and the Members being appointed by the governor and confirmed by the senate.

We could change the current rule of Three members must reside east of the summit of the Cascade mountains, three must reside west of the summit, and three may reside anywhere in the state. No two Commissioners may reside in the same county.

Changing it so that the commission, other then the director which would be appointed by the Governor would be voted on by the people based on their regional district setup by fish and game. So for instance each region would have one member they would elect that would make six members elected by the people and then 3 additional members would be elected from one of the following organizations. The Inland Northwest Wildlife Council,The Washington Hunter Education Instructors Association , Washington For Wildlife,Washington chapter of the MDF, NWTF, FNAWS. SCI, Seattle Sportsmens Conservation Foundation,Washington State Archery Association and any other you can think of that are pro hunting.  And the Director can only vote if there is a Tie. Does that sound better?

200,000 plus hunters in this state. Lets start a thread on how many vote or are even registerd to vote. It takes more then wearing a button or bumber sticker on your rig.
Seattle has the voters. Look what they did to trapping and hounds!

Like the other gentlemen said, careful what you ask for! You could very easily have an anti as head of Moose and Goose, aka, Fish and Feathers!

I am more upset with the WDFW than at any point in my life.   :bash:

But, I think there is going to be a swing to the right in the political structure across the country in November. If that happens in Washington too, then it will be time to restructure the WDFW. While we have a liberal majority in the legislature and in the governor's seat, we do not want to restructure. They are not going to restructure in a manner that would be good for hunters. I suggest waiting for the time to be right so that we gain..... :twocents:

Its not meant to have any kind of an impact, rather just to keep the thoughts fresh as some time goes by until elections.........heck,  maybe we should all just dress up like pigs ............. :bdid:
