good bear hunting spots
« on: July 17, 2008, 07:16:58 PM »
I'm new to the area and want to go bear hunting with my bow, looking for someone to hunt with or just some advice on where to go within an hour or so from Fort Lewis.

contact the recreations department on Ft, Lewis, they will tell you how to get on base and hunt. The bear population on base is pretty good from what I hear

1.  Go to an area with lots of bear scat.

2.  Look for a stump that has been torn up and full of insects.  Make sure there is bear tracks all around it.

3.  Sit 30 - 40 yards from the stump for a couple days and harvest your bear.

I think you'll find most of your bears around fruit trees and berry bushes or just outside of housing areas or towns.  I've got an area 20 minutes from Bellevue.  I've already taken photos.

There are also a couple outlying areas near the Indian rez/ Mil rez boundary that have an abundance of bears right now. My step brother's brother inlaws grandfather shot one a few weeks ago while it was getting into his garbage.

all of kitsap county is a fairly good bet. its close to seattle, they are used to seeing hikers and joggers, and hunting pressure is very light. my first Wa bear came from a spot 10 mins from my cabin. shoot, ive bear hunted my backyard.

Kitsap historically has been good for whopper bears. Even better then the coast.
