1st time archery hunting for deer this year.
« on: January 08, 2012, 11:43:10 AM »
I spent most of my time behind the camera this year and not a lot of time hunting. Thank goodness I drew the multi season tag for deer this year or I might not have hunted for deer at all in Washington. Late archery season came around and I finally had time to got out and see what I could come up with, I was hunting and filming on my own after work so I didn't have a lot of options. I set up a ground blind on some property I have permission to hunt, dumped some apples and put out a trail cam or three  :chuckle: ... I was getting a few pics of a couple black tails I would be happy to take with my bow and set my sights on what ever one showed up first. The problem was, they were not showing up during the day. Day after day I sat there (and I hate just sitting there!  :bash: ) I passed several doe's and 5 spikes thinking maybe one of the bigger bucks would show up.... And not so much..... With only a week left to hunt and the freezer running dry I decided to take a doe if I had the opportunity,,,, and nothing,,,,,, down to 2days left and about 25 min of light left I texted my buddy who owns the property I was on and asked him to check the field that was about 200 yards behind me to see if any deer were out there because the night before when I was walking to my truck there were but I didn't have my tripod with me so I couldn't film if I shot so I passed.... He text me back and said there were two doe's in the corner of the field,, I grabbed my bow and the camera on the tri-pod and took off out of my blind filming as I made my way to the field and explaining to the camera that this might not turn out so well video wise lol but I needed some meat in the freezer so I had to try. I made it to the tree's at the edge of the field and made my way down a trail until I could see the deer, I was 85 yards away so I set the camera up and zoomed in on the two doe. It was raining pretty good and windy so I knew I had good cover to ove closer but just not with the camera. I belly crawled in front of the camera toward the deer and hooked left so not to block the camera view when I sat up to shoot. One of the deer caught my movement and I froze. She finally turned broadside and looked away long enough for me to sit up, I ranged her at 63 yards, slowly drew back, settled in and let my Terminal T fly :hello: .....  I heard the SMACK and off she ran into the brush, I went back and grabbed the camera and went out to look for the arrow but didn't find anything, I called my buddy and he came over to help me film and start looking for blood. After a little while looking we found just a few drop's of blood. It was raining harder now so that wasn't helping, I marked the last blood we found and started searching different trails and low and behold I found he not far away at all. The Terminal T had went right through both shoulders and was just starting to poke out the other side  :rockin: . I know its just a doe, but I was pretty damn happy with the out come. I went back and watched the footage and was even happier to find that I got the whole thing on film just as if I had a camera man there with me  :IBCOOL: TALK ABOUT LUCKY!!!!  So, not my biggest critter to date but I'm just as happy to share this story with you as any other.  MEAT IN THE FREEZER BABY  Take care all and have a great year!!!

Good job Chris!!! You can always chase down one of your bucks next year! You gotta fill the freezer first!
