I know a Knight Mountaineer is not way up on anybodies list of guns since at this time we can not use them during ML season, but I hunt the regular rifle season here in Idaho with a muzzleloder also... So for me it has a place, and of course I believe the DISC Extreme can do most anything the Mntneer can.
I had a couple of hours early this afternoon and I decide the best use of the time would be to go to the farm and get some shooting with ole #242.
It was frozen and still right @ 32* when I go to the farm. I was somewhat disappointed that there was not snow, but at least there was no mud.
One of the reason for going to the farm was try my new front rest. Some that know me no how really cheap I am... so when Idecided to give up on sand bags for my front rest... a few suggested the Rock Deluxe... when I went to by it a Sportsman the price gouged me a little bit when I could a Rock Junior for about half price... and after all what is the difference? So I bought Junior. After my last trip I decided I was going to get the 'real Rock' I went on line and I be darned if Amazon did not have it for $67 and free shipping to boot because Terry does so much e-shopping there.
I got here the other day - I assemmbled it and have been itching to go shoot from it. The time was today.
When I got the the farm I setup 6 birds at 100 yards and started using the rest. I really like it... it is really stable. Well after the second set of 6 birds at 100 I was really feeling I had a handle on the new rest.
I posted a paper target and grabbed four birds and the range finder. Walked everything out to 150 yards and set up the birds and the target.
I shot the target first to see where I the shots might be going, not a the start of a real good group, but it did show me what I thought I need to know. I was pretty happy with the results and after the second shot decided to move to the birds - they are much more fun to shoot.
Got my four shots off at the birds ended up with all four birds broken. Even with ear plugs in I could here the distinct 'click' of the bullet hitting the clay birds. I held the center Xhair right on the bottom center of the bird and touched the gun off.
This set of pictures is sort of a round up of the days events. I took a individual picture of each hit bird and from my view I had had solid hits on each bird. From the remains of one bird it looks like I might have been just a bit to the right of center.
