Any Backpacking Tarp Recommendations?

Anyone have any lightweight tarp recommendations for backpacking that doesn't cost a $100?   I'm thinking of a 8'x10', definitely not a blue plastic tarp more along the lines of sil nylon, but the few I've browsed seem overpriced.

One suggestion is a use Rain fly from a tent. I was getting ready to throw away my old 12x17 Coleman Weathermaster tent, when I realized the rain fly (obviously waterproof) weighs almost nothing yet covers a 12x17 foot tent. This can be use for a raintarp that covers a very large area that can be rolled up in a small bundle and carried in my pack.
Sure beats trying to rig those heavy silver 10x20 tarps, lol

That is awesome idea  I actually have a couple of the cheap blue 8x 10 ones rolled up on pack. I now know what I'm replacing them with. Thanks

I purchased my nylon tarps from REI. They are very durable and well worth the price. Light weight and have grommets for attaching. You can't go wrong with these. I have used these on several of my PCT hikes.

After posting I checked my old 10x10 dome that the sleeves are shot on and found the rain fly from that one was also good. The little 9x7 dome we bought for the kids had the thicker rain fly that takes up way to much space in a pack.
My 12x17 rain fly rolls up into a 3 inches diameter roll about 14 inches long.

Thanks all for the suggestions.  I'm leaning on going with that REI tarp.  I never would have found it otherwise, I rarely go to their stores.  When I do, they have lots of great stuff but I always walk out empty handed.

i dont consider my myself to be a true backwoods guy, but i hunt the high country plenty. tyvek has saved my ass plenty, and is the best stuff i have found. its light weight and lasts several years

Yep, Tyvek is awesome stuff!  You can fold it down small and is very durable.  I use to carry a piece in my pack with a few of those quick grip tarp holders and some parachute cord.  You can make a great waterproof tent in no time and for very little cost.
