.338 cal 300gr nosler accubond
« on: January 17, 2012, 06:46:59 PM »
Just got off the phone with nosler and then are making a 300 gr accubond bullet for a .338 cal.  Just order some from Cabelas and I should have them in a month or so.  BC should be .730.

I just bought the remington 700 xcr2 in .338rum.  Had a muzzle brake put on and got a McMillan stock.  Bought a Nightforce 5.5-22x50 and think I can get at least 2950 fps out the muzzle.  I was on cabelas website buying some brass when I discovered that they were selling a 300 gr accubond.  I shoot an accubond out of all my guns.  The only reason I bought this .338 rum was to shoot a 300 gr berger but now I can go with an accubond.  I am pumped to see what it can do.

They will be perfect for the 338 rum, I use accubonds on all my longer range guns because the bullets still preform great even at the lower end velocities like 1700-1900 fps. The bullets still open well and have great killing power with them. I am running the 200g in my 340wby. I will play with these 300g'ers for my hunts that I am going to be shooting less then 400 yards. Like most my bear hunting and boar hunting. It will be a huge killer!!!!

The other thing is the accubond is a born and bred hunting bullet. The 300g gen 2 berger is more of a tactical target bullet. A lot of guys run them for hunting and do well with them but they are not listed for hunting bullets by the company that makes them. That should say something about them being used for hunting. That's my :twocents:'s

Haha. Yep, Nosler said they could have some to me by mid Febuary.

I'm going to work loads up with the 160gr Accubond in my latest long range 7mm WSM build before I even try any of the heavier match bullets. Which if they shoot, like they usually do. ;) I'll just stick with them and call it good.

You won't come close to 2950 in a 338rum.  If its a 26" barrel, you might hit 2750.  Even with a 30" barrel it will only get to the 2800 range.  The 338 edge will get it close.  Mine runs the 300 Bergers at 2950.

Welli feel like a kid you got a game boy instead of an x box.  :'(. How do you think they will perform in a little 338 win mag?  Is that powerful enough to see these bullets really perform?

Oh yes they will preform very well in any of the 338's the only thing is with the plain 338 wm you wont be able to get the huge fps to really push those bullets way out there. For hunting with it and shots around the 200 yard mark it will be great in your gun. Probably even out to 300 yards you will just start to get a lot of drop from it.

Yep maybe it's time to start looking for a new rifle ; ). I'd sure like a 338-378 to try these in!

I would look into a edge if you are gun shopping. Don't get me wrong I love my 340wby and will not probably buy another 338 cal rifle but If I was going to it would probably be a edge

Yeah I couldn't afford the brass for a 338-378.   Should be fun to see how these bullets work non the less, good moose round for the 338 win mag I have when I get drawn this year ; )

That is very true. If I don't build a 458 socom this year for when I call bears.  I will be running these for when I am calling them :IBCOOL:
