When you say the fish hatchery are you talking about the rearing pond on the way up from Bogans?  I am wondering if there was an actual hatchery on that river.

There is 5 hatcherys..they took out 2 I think a few years ago in oregon.  It was at one time or still may be the highest stocked steelhead river in the world.

WOW, there is three hatcherys on that river?  I will have to get out google earth to see.

When does that river get their huge number of runs?  It seams as if there are fish in that river all year long but there has to be times when it is off the charts.

January, February, and March are prime times for the Ronde but it can be iced up in Jan so it makes floating the river dangerous! I float it in February and March and fishing is fantastic! Once it comes back into shape I am headed down to put a wackin on some more fish!

I've never had to worry about it coming into shape before, but after this last week I'm going to have to deal with it. Anyone know what a good flow is this time of year? How long does it typically take to get back fishing?

ill be down this weekend as long as the wednesday rain and warm weather doesnt bring it up again. This time of year you dont wanna be headed down to fish a rising river, usually means its muddy and cold. Jan-early febuary u wanna fish the deeper holes and that means the river needs to stay under 2400 cfs. I personally like to fish in Jan-early Feb under 2000cfs. Now once march arrives it really dont matter where the river is in flow..I have had some of my best days on that river in high muddy river clear up to 8,000 cfs.

Anyone been down Shumaker Grade in the last week? Wondering if it will be accessable this weekend or not.

last year it was unfishable during march and april, the water was much too high.  the year before it was good with a limit of 5.  this year it is 3 or 4?  i think one of the hatcheries is for salmon.  one steelhead hatchery is in oregon and the rearing pond for steels  is about 2 miles above boggans at cottonwood.  the fry are shipped from lyons ferry and put in the pond to reach a certain size then released.       i have caught a few salmon in the river in the last 10 years.  the tucannon river has a better run of salmon.    mike w

Almost everything you posted is incorrect 

I was on the ronde in March and april about 20 days last year...u dont fish the river much then..it was in great shape just the early flood in febuary ran all the fish up the river early so it made for spotty fishing during the prime month of march...There are 0 salmon hatcherys on the ronde..there has been talks in OR by tribes of introducing a springer run..the current salmon in the river are all native run fish..fall too.

Also there is other hatcherys on the Ronde in OR.. plus the miniam river and wallawa river too
