Oak Creek
« on: January 31, 2012, 08:51:36 AM »
Has anyone been to Oak Creek lately?  Are there a lot of elk down in there now?  I want to get over there and take a look if they are. Thanks,

They have been filing in so there are quite a few of them there.   Not as many as norm and nothing gigantic.

There is another thread up in the General section on this topic.... someone was up taking pictures this last weekend.
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

I believe they feed about 1:30 in the afternoon...

make sure and have your Discovery Pass cause it costs money and you have to have a permit to view the elk!   :bash: :bash:

according to the publication by the Naches Chamber of Commerce the WDFW Access Pass will work also thats what i use the state can shove that discover pass worse case park across the hwy and walk in no pass required for pedestrians

Location: Naches
On Hwy. 12, 2 mi. west of the junction of Hwy. 12 and Hwy. 410

Elk are fed daily at 1:30 pm at the Oak Creek Headquarters, and the bighorn sheep are fed mid-morning at the Cleman Mountain feeding site. A normal winter season is mid-December to early March. Truck tours are available on a first-come, first served and reservation basis to take visitors out amongst the elk. These tours are supported by donations.

The visitor center at the Oak Creek Headquarters is open every day between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. and is staffed by AmeriCorps and Wildlife Education Corps volunteers. Look for the helpful folks in the blue vests and caps. The center has a video program, exhibits, and a kids' corner. All vehicles must have a Discover Pass or Vehicle Access Permit to view the exhibits and for parking. There is 15 minutes free parking.

Bring camera, extra film, binoculars, warm clothes, and lunch. For information, call the Oak Creek Wildlife at 509-653-2390.

I was there last Wednesday 1/25 at about 7am  I saw a couple of hundred heads maybe, all cows, well almost, I saw one branch bull that was it.  I think the bulls don’t show up until feeding time about 1pm.  But still it was strange only one bull!   :dunno:

I think your right about the bulls coming down at feeding time. A couple years ago we were there at that time and it was cool to see all these bulls coming down playing around as they came down to feed.
