The sound of a yote after it has been shot or is getting hurt. It is a yote in distress sound and very deadly

3 Questions:

Why do yote distress calls work?

Why do pup distress calls work?

What small animals do we have over in eastern washington for distress calls? Rabbits? Fawn's? What works for the distress calls?

I have 3 standard calling sounds. A bird in distress/fawn in distress and a rodent in distress. These 3 have produced more for me then anything else by a long shot.

The distress yote sounds work very well because it triggers a instinct in the yotes to come to protect the young or to fight off another yote. That may be in there area. I pretty much never leave a area without using one of the two either by the elec call or my mouth calls

Not trying to be contrary Matt, but I have NEVER had coyote distress of any kind(pup or adult) work for me. I have called a bunch with a simple mouse distress though.

ok, so what preyed upon animals are there in eastern washington? Trying to figure out what distress calls to use?????? (Rabbits, mice, rats,?????????)?????

How about the same thing for the western side?

Why do bird calls Work for luring them in???

Which bird calls do you want to use for eastern washington?

What about birds for western washington?

Are birds preyed upon? Or are they an indication of something dead?

What about hawks? I have a Mojo hawk decoy, and a mojo critter.

What about house cat or small domestic dog sounds?

Cottontail in distress is usually fool proof! Fawn in distress can be a good back up. Use a mouse or small rodent in distress as a coaxer,(close in to finish the yote into range).
What would life be without the thrill of the hunt?

Quit over thinking it. It's more about the sound than the animal. It's more about the pitch and cadence, not necessarily what it comes from. Everyone seems to have their favorites.

I have heard from several turkey hunters that the turkey calls seem to work better on yotes than turkeys.

:yeah: the reason I say cottontail is because it's an abundant food source on the east side of the hump that yotes dig! Mouse for a coaxer because it's quieter and less likely to spook the yote at close ranges. But more important than anything is to make it sound horrible if nothing else yotes are territorial and curious animals! They will want to check it out. And mot importantly don't repeat the same call over and over.

Pup in distress usually works well for me  :dunno:

It once called in a tripple in under 10 minutes.

Im guessing it all depends on location also.

location location location, you have to scout where you will be calling to look for signs of what is the yotes main prey types in that area, my turkey hunting spot i use turkey calls, this is because I usual shoot a yote trying to steal my decoy every year. Further north I have a spot that I use rabbit( I try to stay away from popular sounds though cause they tend to be over called) also in the spot time depending fawn distress. other spot I us phesant distress cause they are alot of them running around there. get on the ground scout your spot prior to hunting them.  and if it is  a really slow day I hit buttons at random  :chuckle:

Maybe you ain't doing it right :chuckle: There is a reason it is so popular and a lot of people have killed thousands of yotes with those sounds  I don't call as much as i would like to, but I am sure I have shot probably 30-40 yotes with those sounds over the years.

Also that is why foxpro has setup foxbang and probably close to 90% of the people that use it use the ki-yi in it. There is a ton of guys with more talent for calling yotes then me on here. I am just above avg Joe in my mind. You ask any of the guys putting numbers up if the ki-yi and pup distress is affective and I am sure they will let you know one answer. YES
