Another One Bites the Dust
« on: February 08, 2012, 02:26:36 PM »
Not new to the site, just had some difficulties with getting my username/password back. Been following the site for months now avidly now that predator hunting has sparked my interest... well here's my most recent story:

I drove over to our hunting spot to meet my Dad (coming from Seattle) and I met him about half way from where I was at (Pullman) to try and shoot some dogs. We ended up getting out in the field just after sunrise (7:00) and started calling a quarter to eight.

I started with a 'rodent' sound on my foxpro for about 8-10 minutes, switched to going back and forth between 'dual rodents' and 'rodent' for another 6-8 minutes. Then sat in silence for about 3 or 4 minutes and wailed hard for about 12 or so minutes with a 'rodent distress'. Just as I was getting restless and thinking nothing was going to come in I turned my head and saw a yote sitting on a rock about 75 yards away just watching the mojo critter where my set up was.

This is where my foxpro and mojo critter were wailin' and twirlin'

This is where the dumb ole' dog was watching from.

It was silent when I noticed the dog (right before I was going to stand up) and so I hit that 'rodent distress' again, the dog turned his head to the left... I raised my .243 shot once, he started yelping. Stood up and threw another piece of lead down range only to make the desert turn to an eerie silence. Like a kid on Christmas (even though I'm 21) I got on the radio and told my dad I got one!

Me and my Pops

I don't think there's gonna be a day where I'm not that excited about calling a predator in & shooting one... from the sounds of it with other guys, sounds like a pretty serious addiction  :chuckle:   anyway I held her up, felt like 30-40 pounds if that sounds about right. It was a female so I lucked out there

Nice first post, Yote. Welcome to HuntWA. Well done on the yote.

couldn't that guy have cut the power and floated down?  :twocents:
