"Robin Hood-ing...?"

I'm new to the whole archery thing, but I understand from the couple people I know who bow hunt that Robin Hooding an arrow is a pretty rare thing?  Not just hitting a knock off, but actually true-blue embedding one arrow into another.  Does this happen very often, or is it a one in a million thing or what?  I'm asking mostly in regards to current carbon fiber arrows in use, but any info on aluminum or wooden arrows is welcome too.

THis topic will really get people going. It is really not that uncommon. The carbon arrows are very easy to robinhood. If you are fairly accurate it will likely happen to you at some point. Just don't get in the habit of trying to group arrows. It is kinda cool to do once, but after that it is a waste of good arrows.

It happens I've done it twice one to my own arrow once to a buddies at a 3d shoot.

Last night in practice shooting my recurve... sucks as it is $20 down the drain... first one I had I thought WOW thats awesome.... now its "dang it",,,

I'v done it a couple of times , but like what has been said it gets a little expensive. Although your local archery shop doesnt mind a bit.

20!!   so you did it twice?  expensive arrows.
I've had two robinhoods... so 20 for me too!    Try not to duplicate the sight picture.
I have a 20 yard range in backyard... so I try not to shoot at the same target twice in a row (same sight picture form etc.)     I find I have to be carefull after spending time at the range shooting 50+ yards.... concentration thing... aim small hit small. 

The movie (hence the term) there has been some discussion about pre-splitting the arrow.. (not like carbons).

This is why I have 5 separate spots to shoot at on my target.  One shot per spot because if you practice enough and are a decent shot you will wreck a ton of arrows.  I hava a tripple Robin Hood stashed away somewhere in my barn.  At $60 I don't want to do it again.

Unfortunately a few more than 2 times... at least one time it was to someone elses during a 3D.  Shooting a recurve I shoot the one spot NFAA target for indoors, and you have to shoot 5 arrows per end... so they get pretty tight in there, the reason I switched to skinny arrows (CXL pro 150's) vice the 2712's I shoot for the Vegas face (only 3 arrows).  I sure wouldn't shoot my ACC's indoors... they are too expensive..LOL

I've hit and buried a couple arrows within each other. I guess u.can call them "Robin Hoods " but if its a fluke thing (not truly trying to do)  then its just a cool accident.

I had a robin hood that is now mounted on my garage wall.   Mine happened within 5 years of the start of my archery shooting and was a 40 yard complete accident.  For the last 2 years I shoot at 4 different target spots on one target, so it should not happen ever again.  Mike

Thanks for the responses, it seems like its not too uncommon then.  I'm looking at mounting my first one over where my bow hangs on the wall.  From here on though, I'll be aiming at different points on the target.  Losing a pair of arrows is going to get expensive, and even just tearing up fletchings is annoying.

I have done one.  Not 2 weeks after getting my first ever bow.  I was like damn pretty cool.  Still in one on my tote boxes for all my equipment.  Wife did a scrap book page too.
