Fishing around Lewiston / Clarkston this weekend
« on: February 14, 2012, 07:28:49 AM »
Going to visit my son this weekend and he wanted to go fishing.  Is there lots of snow to get down to the Hwy 129 on the Grande Ronde?

Is there lots of ice on the river?

I was planning on buying a tribe fishing license for the Clearwater if the fishing was something to be investigated.  If you were going to fish would you hit the Clearwater, Grande Ronde or the Snake?

BTW,  I have no boat so we will be bank fishing.

You can PM me if you would like.  Thank you for any help you can provide.

Hey Hunt, if you call Boggans they will give you a report on river conditions. 509-256-3372. I think their steelhead derby is on now, should be no shortage of fellow anglers. Road should be fine, unless we get a snow storm. Good luck. FF

The Grand Ronde is in good shape with a nice green color to it! The road is clear. Good Luck down there!

I called Boggan's and the lady said there is the Steelhead derby going on.  There was 17 fishermen from Boggan's up to the 3 mile area.    The water is 38 degrees there is a chance of rain coming this weekend.  It has been 40 degrees out there during the day.  So we will see what happens.

Had a good time and we only banked one fish. We suck at fishing but at least we know it.   :chuckle:

We ate at Roosters... That place is great.  Thank you for that tip.

But it was not all that bad....

We were bank fishing when we hear the boat banging the rocks.

If flips over in the rapids.  Two guys and two kids all wearing lifevests.  The two kids are scrambling the two men are scrambling to right the boat and get the kids to shore.  They get the boat to shore with everyone all safe.  Here is the picture of the rower bailing water from the boat with a dust pan and the other adult looking for gear.

The adult gave up looking for gear started to help with the boat.

I cast and I see some cork bobbing in the water.  I reel in fast and cast over it and snagged and reeled this in.

After further investigation I see it is a rather nice set up.  Loomis rod and nice reel.  Ahhh the reason why the one adult was looking in the water.  That makes sense.

The one adult that took the biggest dip in the water jumped in the chase car with the two mothers.  Now they looked pretty excited when they were hoofing it to the boat.  But they allowed the two children to stay in the boat for the rest of the float.  Here is the picture of my son handing him his rod I snagged for him.  He was pretty happy to get it back.

We did look at how he had that rod set up.

We fished on Saturday all day and we only banked one fish.  We have not figured it out yet.  Any pointers would be helpful.

My dad said it was pretty crowded...looks like another repeat of last season as all of the fish are now in the river and will fade in March again  :'(...last year was really bad in what is and has been primetime down there in March and even early april. Big pushes of water in feburuary are pushing all the fish up early and making for very few fish by mid and late march

The river should be fishable by Monday at the latest and there should be some more fish moving in with the high water! Maybe get some of those bigger Oregun fish before they shoot through!

Well because I could not log on the last two days here is the report!
Tuesday we did a short day and managed to go 6 for 9 with 2 hens in the box! The rest were bucks and I didnt want to keep them.

Wednesday I had two guys and we went 10 for 14 with they decided keep. Two of them were nice size hens one went 28 1/2 inches and the other was 29 1/2 inches the other two were cookie cutter bucks we also had some very nice wild hens that went between 30 and 32 inches and a few smaller bucks. It was a pretty good day all and all! The river looks pretty nasty from on top but there are fish in there and they are willing to bite!

Good Luck out there!
