Input on magnum rifles

IF your gonna shoot a magnum,
Spend the money on a great scope to take full advantage of what these magnums are capable of. Word to the wise if you buy a magnum and put a cheap scope on it you will no longer have crosshairs in that scope after a few shots.

You got 800.00 add another 800.00 and you will be set....

tough to beat a tiks t3 im 300wsm vx2 or 3  in 4x12 and leupod base and rings . may be a touch over $800.00 but worth it.

I picked up a .300 Win Mag in the same package but in stainless for 439.00 to use the action on a build. Sold the scope on a forum for 45.00 and the stock/barrel together for 100.00. Put me into a new stainless Rem700 action way cheap.

At Christmas time they were selling the matte blued Rem700 package  for 369.00 and a 40.00 rebate from Remington.

You know it's a smoking deal when you see a guy that works at another local gun shop in Bi-Mart buying Rem700 packages.

Tikka in a standard magnum 7mm or 300 win mag + a sims limbsaver recoil pad. You get the standard mag ammo for less. Tikka's are the most consistant out of the box for accuracy, smooth bolt operation and trigger.

Unless you are going with an ultra-mag of some type there is VERY little difference in regular magnums and the winchester short magnums so do not assume that just because they are "short magnums" they have less performance. Ultra magnums are a big step up and will eat scopes as someone else mentioned. They are also expensive to feed if you plan on shooting any volume. If you want a magnum the 300 win mag is tried and true and there is a lot of factory ammunition available and even more load data if you reload. As far as glass goes consider the new redfields. They are made by leupold and come in at just over 200 bucks and are made in the USA.

I agree that the .300 Win Mag is a fine round and is very fun to shoot.   

My problem is all of my rifles are too similar in ballistics, .30-06, 7MM Rem Mag and .300 Winny.  I need to branch out on either end. 

What would your recommendation be for my next rifle caliber to purchase?
