Forks for bear???
« on: February 13, 2012, 07:01:17 PM »
I think I'm going to spend alot of time scouting/hunting this year over by Forks, any ideas on the population, good times to harvest, etc...
I have reason they are bigger there than the rest of the state

I'm not sure about being bigger there, but yeah some big ones around.  A buddy told me of one shot last deer season that I think he said was 425#.  A lot of the land around Forks is Rayonier and he used to run dogs there and killed tons of bears, but now only the contract guys can.  The older clearcuts have lots of blackberries out there in late summer.  Eventhough it is rainforest, in early Sep it can be dry and crunchy.  For the higher bear populations, the closer you get to the Quinault it seems they get higher.  Sol Duc has high bear pop, but I think the bios said the Quinault has something like 13-14 per sq mile--I could've heard wrong, but that is the number I remember.

No shortage of bears on the west end of the OP.  So big ones also.  If you want a big one you need to find the groceries.

pjb3 I'm not sure why you want to go all the way to forks for a bear.  if I remember right you live about 20 minuets away from one of the best GMU's for bear on the westside.
