twisting turrets
« on: February 18, 2012, 08:26:42 PM »
So i have been racking my brain for the last couple weeks trying to figure out this MOA long range shooting and trying to figure out my turrets. from what im gathering an MOA at 100 yards is 1.047 inches or 1 inch for simplicitys sake. so my turrets are 1/4 MOA at 100 yards. so if my logic and understanding along with my math is correct 1 MOA at 500 yards is 5 inches and a 1/4 inch click at 500 is 1.25 inches.  so according to this ballistics program a 100 gr. sierra game king with a ballistico co=efficient of .515 at 2900 FPS drops 51.7 inches at 500 yards or 9.9 MOA. so if 1 MOA at 500 yards is 5 inches and according to my assumption of 1 click equaling 1.25 inches at 500 yards i would have to turn my elevation knob roughly 40 clicks up to adjust for the drop??? is this making any sense or hold any water or am i bass ackwards on my thinking? ?>????????

If your ballistics are correct in your post, then yes, you would need to turn it 40 clicks @ 500 yards.

.243 shooting factory federal loads with 100 gr. sirra gamekings i beleive. the coefficient was off i think its .430 not .515. nad according to the labvel on the box they are coming out at roughly 2900 FPS. need a chrony to verify and hopiing to get some reloading equipment to handload some rounds with a little more consitency. but for now thats what my howa likes for factory ammo.

Don't think in clicks, think in M.O.A.   Come up 3  1/2 M.O.A.

"Don't think in clicks, think in M.O.A."

Exactly.

Then you can start counting clicks "one, two, three, one MOA, one, two, three, two MOA, one, two, three, three MOA. The more you do it, the easier it gets. Second nature after a couple of range trips.
