Duracoat

Anybody use it?  if so how'd come out.  I have an old sporterized M1917 Eddystone that needs a revival.

Ive never undertook the project but i own a duracoated knife. wears well and i think looks good.

since my benelli was such a rust bucket I covered it in duracoat. it works great if you follow all the directions especially where degreasing is concerned. so far it has held up through the 2011/12 season without any edge wear. I only had to retouch a couple gouges that went down to bare metal.

I recommend using an airbrush to apply it. and only mix up half as much as you think you will need since a little goes a long ways. one tablespoon and one eighth tea spoon hardener was enough for the first thin coat on the barrel and receiver.

i bought the aerosol kit when I did it, 4 oz of finish did a lot more than i figured.. removal of all oil before spraying seems to be the biggest thing. My Kahr had 2 little places that flaked, and with where it is I'm convinced its was from not removing all the oil.. I did an old .22 rifle, a savage muzzleloader, and an Ak, and they all look great.. mask off anything you dont want finish on, several thin coats,be careful of letting it run,  if you can krylon something, you can do duracoat.

This is what may get duracoat.  It is a Eddystone M1917 that my dad had sporterized back in 1951.  It's the first bolt action rifle I ever shot and was my hunting rifle up until last year when I bought my A-Bolt 300wsm.  The smith work was done by a professional shop and very well done. It has a 19" .270 barrel I am in the process of polishing the barrel and action.  It may get a re blue instead duracoat, haven't decided as of yet.  It's going to get re-stocked and a timney triger also.

I would think on that rifle a good bluing would look better than duracoat. Duracoat makes me think of AR's and Glocks. A friend of mine has a really nice 1903 sporter with a nice deep blue pretty much like what comes on the A-bolt medallion. Quality Bluing would probably cost alot more, but I think its worth it. Nice old rifle!
