Interesting shooting thing I heard

So I watched a movie on a military sniper instructer and this is what he had to say. He said it dose not matter if u level your scope to your gun as long as when you are shooting your scope is level to the earth it. Most say that it will through your shot off at long ranges because of the arch of your bullet not going straight up and down. But he explains that the barrel is round and it doesn't matter if u lay the gun on its side the arch of the bullet will still go up and down due to gravity and as long as your scope is still level with the earth/ground. He did a deminstration showing him shooting 1000 meters with the gun in a vice completely sideways but the scope was mounted sideways and nailed it. I'm not sure if I believe it or not but it dose make sence. What's your opinions?

He is correct. As long and the vertical axis of the scope is aligned with the barrel, it will hit the same as if the scope and action were level.

Except your scope has a deviation from the sightlineand the aim point of your barrel. Yes the bullet is influenced by gravity down, but by laying it on it's side your scope is no longer boresighted in elevation. If you site your rifle at 200yards, at 100 yards you will be high, and 300 yards you will be low. Gravity is bringing your bullet into your aimpoint. Turn it sideways you will now not be using gravity to pull your bullet to your aim point.

What they are saying is, if you sight it in on its side, it will shoot the same. As long as you sight it in with the scope level, the rest of the rifle can be at any angle.

   "arch of your bullet not going straight up and down."   The only reason a bullet "arcs" is you are pointing your barrel up in the air, all bullets fall from the moment they leave the muzzle. but the sideways shot with the scope sideways is true, he is just pointing the barrel up "sideways"
