Toyota Sequoia anyone?
« on: February 23, 2012, 11:16:06 PM »
Looking at a few used Sequoias. 2001 & 2002s. Mileage varies from 100-200k. Oddly, lots listed below book value by dealers, not as much with private parties.

Safey for the chitlins is a concern. Looks like they've.always had both vehicle stability control and traction control since new. I cant find much for crash tests. A little curious about roof crush in rollovers for some reason.

Experiences good or bad?

Pops had an 01 or 02.  Traded it in for an 11 Tundra.  Sequoia had 248k miles.  No problems or issues with it.  Typical timing belt that needs replacing every 100-120k miles, oil changes, brakes and tires.  85% driving was highway driving, 15% offroad in Southern red clay mud.  We hunt in the middle of South Carolina.  Tires were lasting 75-85k on Goodyear AT/S.  Seemed to be a very safe vehicle.  Never tested his out in that department.  Traction control was very nice for safety but for playing sucked. Diff lock was nice for offroad.  All in all I would give it a 9 out of 10.  The only reason not a 10 is because it doesnt have a truck bed.

 :yeah:
Sounds just like ours. We got a 2002 140K. Never had an issue, except mandatory timing belt.

Have and 04, great vehicle, bit of luxury with true 4x4 capability.  Traction control is excellent.  Have had two problems.  Rear window motor, and rear door lock actuator.  Bought both parts on line and repaired myself for reasonable prices.  Local dealers wanted almost 50% more for the part.  16 mpg daily driving 18-20 on road trips.  There are no rollover standards for SUV and pickups, so no crash test data is likely out here.  If you want to see the other crash tests go to NHTSA website http://www-nrd.nhtsa.dot.gov/database/aspx/vehdb/queryvehicle.aspx and you can probably even watch the crash test videos for any make and model you are interested in.
