Elk...Oregon, Washington, or Idaho?
« on: February 28, 2012, 03:30:51 PM »
I posted a similar question in the Deer section of the website. But...if faced with a choice of the following states...Oregon, Washington, and Idaho....what state would you pick if going after Elk?

Under current rules and seasons, Idaho. If it was as if I had a Gov tag...Washington.

Animals, tough choice between Idaho and Washington.   Rules and seasons, Idaho has the best chance.   Wolves and such, Washington.  Cost....currently Washington is better.  I just got addicted to Idaho when they cranked the price.

mtn cook Sure . The guys name is ottis wagner . He is a real ja . He was suppossed to put us in a deluxe dropcamp. That year there was fires and he moved us to a different area with unsafe gear , rusted out cook stoves, tattered tents , no shovel , or axe , the tents where set up by a migget and water was litterly running across the floors. wet saddles and sick horses . there was four of us and two cotts and 1/2 bottle of propane and one mantle REAL DELUXE. I'm just glad that I packed a ton of gear and some tarps or we woulda been screwed . He may have had a good camp some where but it wasn't there . they set our camp about six hundred yards from another guy who camped about 200 yards from the only wallow around . out of 72 hunters there where two deer killed and one spike bull . one buck was a 2point and I killed a four point buck , a hell of a long way from camp. I might ad that we shared camp with 40 head of cattle . On the third or fourth day the help brought us 1 and a half more cotts . she told us that we where gonna get packed out on that sunday after two other camps . we decided to have them pull us a day earley  at 9am I hiked out since my back was screwed and after my saddle fell off on the way in and dumped me , I wasn't getting back on his stock. they were gonna be at camp at ten . I got all the way out and passed the pack string in the parking lot at 2pm . Anyone that gives money to that ass is crazy and he has been the head of the Oregon guides asscociation !

yeah my back was torqued , so every morning I had my buddies tie my boots and I hiked my ass off the more I walked the better it felt . in 6 days I saw one elk and a dozen deer one bear. all not for a lack of effort . the group that went in the same day as us hiked out on there fourth day, they had a huge new tent with one lil mr heater and no stove ! It was un seasonally cold and we got about eight inches of snow  in Sept . if it woulda been in Nov it coulda been more than a inconvenience and much more dangerous .
