Katadyn Base camp filter REVIEW
«
on:

I personally use a Katadyn Base camp water filter bag, but it has a fews uses besides filtering water. I do not pack a filter pump or any other means of water filtering in the backcountry. The bag has a high flow gravity system and will hold several gallons of water. I have found that in Rain shower down pours on the hike in the bag doubles as a great place to stash your cameras or electronic equipment that you want to keep dry in your pack. You can also use it as a shower bag, simply hang it out in the sun let it warm the water, hang high enough in a tree and take a quick low flow shower! I love this Filter bag and have not found a pitfall of it yet, it rolls up fairly compact as well.... Check it out you wont be sorry!!

I have one too. It didn't last three days in the backcountry as the algae clogged it fast. The second filter lasted a week but only if we pre-filtered the water with coffee filters.

Weird I never had an issue with it yet clogging. But I have not tried to filter swamp water either, its been mostly running creek water in the high country. That sucks with the bad luck, hope I dont encounter that same issue...

I have the Katydyn pocket. Lifetime warranty. Will filter 13,000 gallons before filter needs replaced. I don't think I will drink that much filtered water in my lifetime. Had a cheaper Katydyn pump filter and it lasted barely 2 seasons.

The katadyn hiker pro filter pump handles the exact same lakes like a champ. It is very odd. I think the extra force of the pump helps.

I've talked to a few Marines who swear by the MSR minimax water filter.

I haven't tried it myself, but I'm going to get one this year.

I have one. It has a ceramic filter that you can clean in the field when it gets dirty and you are back in business. The only problem is that you find yourself cleaning it after every third 32 ounce bottle if you are pumping from the backcountry lakes. It does better when pumping from running water.
I still have mine and haven't given up on it completely. It is also a bit heavy compared to the Katadyn line.

Katadyn has a filter for just about every need. I've really liked my Katadyn Hiker. The Base camp uses the same internal filter -just in a different wrapper that supports an expanded function. Smart thinkin!

I have the base camp too, and I love mine. Very simple to use. Lightweight, durable.
