Wind River bank access
« on: March 04, 2012, 03:36:20 PM »
Does any one have access to the Wind River for fishing?

I am looking for access to some private property.

Or any place that I can fish.

You can fish the mouth under the trestle.

Up river they are pretty protective of " Their " river.
It's not true that I am good for nothing---I can be used as a bad example!!

I will ask my cuzz if he ever answers his phone or returns my calls :bash: There is a few people that sell access down there and I will ask him.
I have fished the mouth from the bank and it gets crowed and a lot of tangled lines. Done o.k the few times I have fished there nothing to hot. I like the white a lot better

That is very very true in a lot of the spots up river.

Thanks Carp..  I have never fished down there.  I called the fish and game department and they said 8700 fish are estimated to come into that river this year.  I am assuming that river is only about 20 feet wide from the Google earth pictures.

I also contacted the DNR to see who owns the land and see if there is a rec access.

What is the cost of the keys this year.  They used to be $200.  Before the run got big, I used to pay the little gal that sat at the property like $6 to head on up.  It used to be great, until the monster run showed up in the early 2000's and then everything changed.

There are places to fish that are public access, but most people will not tell you where that is.  i know the one my buddy took me to was not real easy to get to.

I have not heard back from my cuzz yet. He is hard to get a hold of and when I do get a hold of him, most times he says he will call me back and doesn't :chuckle: He is lucky he is family or I would kick him in the nuts

I fished there many years ago, we had to use the rope to scale down the hill side, this was before key acess. We caught a bunch of fish. I would not pay for a key if there are still alot of people giong in there. The place was a mess with people and garbge. Combat fishing at it's best.

Used to walk in at the hot springs.  Then they closed that.  Others come in at the mill.  Many other spots up to the hatchery.  Go drive it and you will locate them.  Bring a float or lots of lead.

I still try to make it down each year, but I used to fish it daily when the fish were in.

I used to fish a hole years ago had to hike in and then down a rock face into a monster deep hole, seems like it was a locals only hole back in the early 80s, was below a waterfall, seems like it was 5 miles up river
