Thanks for all your help I ended up going with a 22-250 and I love it but I will probably end up getting the .17hmr later just for fun thanks everyone for the help :hello:

The 17 hmr is a must have in everyones arsenal.  Just a fun gun to shoot.  Great for ground squirrels.

You definitely made a good choice.

The 17hmr is a cool little gun but only carries its energy out to about 150 yards, past that it probably wouldn't kill anything bigger than a crow. A friend of mine in Montana told me a story of a buck a shot a few years ago with a 17hmr, said it was 246 yards or something like that a double lunged it and it only ran 40 yards, I called BS but he swore it was true... I killed an antelope doe with mine once at 150 yards, but that was my max range for that gun and it was head shots only, that being said it dropped her in her tracks (I had two witnesses  :chuckle: ) I have seen several coyotes shot behind a spotlight with a 17 and they usually yelp and run off.

I use my savage .17 hmr it does wonders I have killed them out to 150 yards, I only take head shots though
