« on: March 08, 2012, 06:47:02 AM »
With my 6.5x284 build going I've been intrigued with a .375-.458 Latley I figure a guy might aswell cover the spectrum . Doe's anyone else have a hankering for a masher ? Convince me wich one I should get , the sellection in .375 seems like the best bet ?

My 2 faves in the Cal's that you have listed is the 375 h&h. Brass is not to spendy and easy to find and big bullet selection. The other one is the 458 Lott. One of the best all around dangerous game cartrides out there

Yeah but I have heard and read that doing so can cause the longer lott cases to stick. So I know it can be done but don't know for a 100% fact that it won't hurt the gun.

If you go with 458 Lott it just has to be a double gun! Big bore doubles are sweet! I want one!

You could take the easy way out and grab a 375 or 416 Ruger. They're both great calibers which a a little easier on the wallet than some of the alternatives.

The 458 win mag is pretty fun though. I had one that would shoot 3 of the now discontinued 400 grain X bullet into less than 1". No other bullet shot that well. I ended up trading it off for some other rifle which just got traded.

By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented immigrant' is like calling a drug dealer an 'unlicensed pharmacist'.

How about a 450 Ultra Magnum, I had a reamer and go gauge done by PTG for mine and it is just gathering dust. Your welcome to use it, it's only chambered one barrel. You can build it on a Rem700 long action, the 450 Ultra Magnum passes the Lott in cruise mode and is a half MOA cartridge if you have the nerves for it. :chuckle:

I'm just waiting on the new CEB bullets "Raptor" bullet in .458 to come out before I do some more load development in mine and waiting on the rifles return from Kampfeld Custom, he's fluting the bolt and installing one of his " Hunter " bolt knobs.

Rem700 450 Ultra Magnum. Benchmark built, Lilja 14 twist.

Wyatts Center feed box mag, Sako extractor. Feeds like glass!

200 yard groups with 350gr Speer Hotcores.

It's first victim! Crappy cell phone pic.

7mm WSM case left, 370gr .458 CEB Non Conventional hollow point with polymer tip on the right.

About as serious as it gets when it comes to putting the horse power behind a .458 diameter bullet. :)

Yes, yes it is. The reamer should come with a neck brace, pint of your favorite spirit, fist full of vicodin and a seat belt.

Damn Hammer, that thing looks mean. I've got a 375 h&h that's a real good shooter, it only gives you mild whiplash. One of my buddies learned about that the hard way, he ended up with a bleeding half moon shape on his forehead. ha ha good times...

the 375 seems like a good choice without going over the top.

Coach,

A .375 Ultra will do you just fine.  I run the 260gr Accubonds on top of 102grs of IMR-7828. True half MOA rifle, recoils like a .300 Win Mag with the brake. I have yet to try the new .375 300gr Accubond but I'll get to it when time permits.
