help identifying breed, and pointing issues

i was wondering if anyone had an input or two about what breed she (Bailey) might be? when i first got her i was thinking maybe chessi/lab mix, but after some googling im starting to think maybe GSP/lab? She has a natural point when it comes to the field but wont do it when i play hide and seek with her. She is just getting the "whoa" thing down. Is there a trick to getting her to point whatever shes after? Like i said when i have her outdoors and she smells something unfamiliar she will point, hold, and sniff. I hope someone can help out at least a little. By the way she is about 5 1/2 months old right now.

judging by the ears I would bet my last dollar that one of her parents had pointed ears like a shepherd, or possibly a shepherd cross. since the dog likes to point and is mostly liver I would say your right in guessing she is one part GSP. however the pointing instinct can pop up many non sporting breeds.

if your goal is to get her to point birds for hunting, then you should get her into some training birds. every time she successfully point a bird she gets a reward every time she flushes she gets a talking to.

so far ive only located one covey of quail and they flushed long before she got near them, but she did point the tweeters( finch's) that were left behind. Anyone know of somewhere around Yakima i can get a few birds to plant and train her on?

Birds, Birds, and more Birds. There is a place in ellensberg called Cooke Canyon there probably the closest licensed game farm. They have birds.

As for the Woa it takes time. You can do the waist belt trick thats what I did. You have them on a leash and a large collar around there waist. Then when you say woa you pull up on both the neck and waist. This makes them stop and not sit.

You can also use a bird launcher. You hold the bird in the launcher as long as they point. But if they get excited and flush to early you let the bird fly. This teaches that they must wait for the reward of a bird.

I know my explinations are not to good. There are many books that explain these concepts better.

No expert on pointers but in the first photo i see the eyes and snout of a spaniel
