Rookie Advice

Hi All,

I just moved here from “back East” and have always wanted to try hunting coyotes.  Being a complete rookie, I’m hoping I can get some suggestions on where to go.  I live on the West side (Bellevue), but can go anywhere in the state for a weekend hunt.

ANY advice will be greatly appreciated!

Has anyone hunted any of PSE’s wind farm areas?

Carl....on behalf of the C-Post Sactuary I'd like to say welcome. We have lots and lots of song dogs and would be more than happy if you want to come on up and thin them about. Here at the C-Post Santuary we value our deer and elk herds far and above the yotes. Look us up and we can get you started.




Okay....got that out of the way.

Welcome to the site. Lots of good info for the browsing. Some of the guys have some good post regarding calling and killing yotes here on the west side. Close shots and thick cover is the norm. Do some searching of posts and you can probably get some good tips.

Regarding the east side I don't have a lot of experience. I bet you can find some info on the wind farms here as well as maybe on their websites. Some good callers and shooters here that have posted some good pointers in the past. Check out some of the sponsors, get some good proven calls, get out there and do some hunting.

You may want to check out the Go Hunt on WDFW website as well as look into getting some Quadrangle maps from the state...they are pretty good about showing what is public land and what is not.

Seriously, welcome to the eastside (bellevue) as its called round here. Ive never hunted the PSE windfarms, but it looks like fun.

Grab some hunting maps (available on WDFW website, under gohunt). Hit the unpopulated hills with clear cuts and have some luck on your side.

Now- is “C-Post Sanctuary” a real place or are we having fun?  It doesn’t show on Google and I’m starting to laugh at myself for looking.   

You have a great forum and I’m spending most of my free time reading the threads. 

Any suggestions on locations to try will be appreciated.

I appreciate you taking a moment to Google it.

However...I was not kidding about the bulk of my reply. There are some good sponsers that can get some some very nice calls for cheap, offer some advice on calling as well.

I've seen yotes in the fields off the hwy near Monroe and other places. There are dogs everywhere..just got to get them to come in.

Google Earth may help as well. An example of that is I've got my cam up on a small....maybe 30 by 30 yard...opening in some reprod. I've got quiete a few pics of dogs. You can see them in the Deers and Doggies thread in trail cams. I'm considering a set up there. A little brush blind, some calling, a 12 gauge with some number 4's.....whammo!

From the threads I've seen and followed the guys on the west side are kind of ninja close in calling guys....east side are callers that can tease 'em in and make shots at just about any distance.

By the way....when you googled c-post....how many hunt wa threads came up?

Carl...ya figured out C-post pretty quick  but i did giggle that you looked it up on Google earth. Some guys have yet to figure out "C-post".

  Welcome, now wwe can keep em all confused cause I am Carl!!??? coyotes are everywhere, from what I have read you'll find calling here a little easier than eastern USA that is. Lots of folks hunt the wind farm general area. I use a rifle 98% even on the west side. There are some great call makers here. try Rick- R& R calls and Rainforest(spelling) or is it rainshadow?

Thanks to all.  I got a pretty good laugh at myself on the C-post.

I'll look for calls and instruction on using them.   I’ll be sure and post results with pictures of my first successful hunt!

Carl there is a wealth of information if you use the search for it. There is another site you may have found searching for help hunting coyotes. They have a huge wealth of information as well but the people are FAR friendlier here.
