7 pin sights and 3D shoots
« on: March 10, 2012, 08:36:56 AM »
I have been talking around to a few guys I have met in the area that bow hunt, and they told me that I couldn't shoot a 7 pin sight at 3D tournaments here.  I have shot a few tourneys in Connecticut and New York before moving here, and never heard of a pin restriction at those.  Is this true, or is it a course specific restriction?  :dunno:

To enter in Bow Hunter Freestyle, there is a 5 pin limit.....you could however enter Freestyle Class, and shoot with the guys who are all shooting movable sights.

Most of the shoots here follow the NFAA rules:
http://www.nfaa-archery.org/field/styles.cfm

You probably shot under IBO or ASA rules back east.  Bowhunter Freestyle limits you to 5 pins or less

I find the definition at the NFAA site confusing. I must not be reading it right.  :bash:  Generally at our shoot Bow Hunter Freestyle is 5pin 12in or less stabilizer and i think that it, unless you drop down to a bare bow... I know BHFS is what i shoot, and got rid of the extra pins just because of it. Just learn to stack your pins.  :twocents:
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

More than 5 pins, or stab over 12 " you would have to shoot Freestyle

I have my hoyt set up with the seven deadly pins.  It is my hunting setup and I do not mess with something that is working well.  When I do shoot I usually tell them don't care just want to shoot that day.  I like to shoot with the folks folks with all the stuff on the bow so that competation puts more pressure on me.  That pressure is great because it is the simular pressure you will see when you are doing battle and you are under pressure to wack an elk.
