Oldy but goody, Here's the snopes article about it. From Alaska in 2004, not Montana. Wouldn't that be a surprise especially since when they found him he was still alive!

my dad said he met a guy in montana that had that happen with a deer when he was putting up power lines. I heard it a happens because they have the lines either on the ground or very low as they are putting them up and then stretch them tight to get them up.

They use a chopper to lift them and I guess this moose was in between as it went up

Been around more than 5 years! Probably more like 15 or 16 years! The story always seems to get updated to suit the person passing it around.
