Just upgraded my son to a .300 Win Mag
« on: March 15, 2012, 09:44:10 PM »
I have upgraded my son from a Savage .270 win to a Thompson Center Venture w/weather shield .300 win mag.  Just finished mounting the Nikon scope, adding a Limbsaver recoil pad, adding a Limbsaver barrel de-resonator, an Ultraflex gun sling and set the adjustable trigger to 4 lbs.

Looks like a great set up! Only thing I wouldn't care for is that rubber thing on the barrel.

Have you seen any improvement in your groups buy using those things?

Looks like serious elk medicine.

I'm also curious as to whether the rubber donuts work......

Excellent cartridge!  Stuffed with some Accubonds, it makes for some bad medicine.

We haven't shot this rifle yet, but on my ruger .300 win mag and his last rifle that savage .270 win it seemed to help a bit.  So after seeing a little improvement he really wanted it so if nothing else $10 for his confidence is worth it.
