fobs...finally im grouping the way i should be.
« on: July 29, 2008, 04:50:43 PM »
well i didnt really believe the hype. i had shot a couple once last year and thought ok not a really big difference at 20yds...

well i got a couple test fobs from killbilly the other day and have been shooting at 20yds and 30yds all week. groups arent any better then when i shoot blazers.

well i remembered he told me to make sure the fob can spin a little on the shaft. so i did some adjusting and got a nice smooth spin out of the fob on the shaft. and wow...groups were a little tighter at 30yds. so

i went to a buddies house today after i got done fishing. his range goes from 10yds out to 100yds. and i was extemely happy when i found myself shooting tight groups out to 60yds. and the nice thing about it was i was getting over half an arrow of pentration on the blocks and full pass throughs on the bags shooting broadheads.

so the hype is real for me. well once i got the tuned right.

I have been swearing by the fobs since I tried them back in February.  Great flight, and easy to replace.  I use FOBs, Blazers and QS Hunters.  Depends on my mood, but my Hunting arrows wear FOBs.

This'll be my second year of hunting with FOB's, and I don't have any need to change anytime soon.  They simply work for me.  I need to get busy and make a little better video for Paul's website.  I've been shooting pretty well at 100 yards again this summer, and I took a bunch of flack about that goofy video.  I was surprised that he even put it up there since it wasn't a professionally edited and taped video.

My daughter filmed a video of me shooting FOB's and broadheads at 100 yards at my deer target last year.  Paul asked me to send it to him, and he thought it was corny enough to be legitimate (which it was) and put it on the front page of his website and on YouTube.  www.starrflight.com

I'm gonna have to give them a try.  I am still waiting on my new arrows with blazers and am growing impatient.  I have a few good arrows with trashed fletchings.  I'll strip them off and throw on the fobs.  Now I have to find them locally.  I like to practice at 100+ yards but the wind is a major factor with standard 4" fletchings.  I am eager to see how they measure up.

I think you'll find that in a wind that causes 24" of wind drift on 4" vanes at 100 yards (maybe a 10 mph breeze) the FOB's will drift about 8-12".  That's what I get here at home when I shoot the longer shots like that.  It's an uncommon day of hunting the sage brush and wheat fields that the wind doesn't blow at least 8-10 mph steady.
