They are both top notch with their respectable models. It's all up to user preference. Personally, I use a Motorguide 36 volt TR109 101lb thrust, and would never think about switching (as of now..technology). At full thrust I can swing the boat around smoothly, whereas with the Minnkota's comparable models I've used, it's a little herky jerky. You won't be disappointed with either.
